La Masa is one of the best places to get a late breakfast (they open at 10am) or lunch in Gizo, Solomon Islands. In saying this I will admit that there are only a few places to eat out for lunch or a late breakfast, but if the lovely owner Joy had opened up shop in Honiara she would do a roaring trade. The menu at La Masa is extensive with a broad range of primarily seafood dishes which range from crayfish omelettes ($80SBD) to great fish and chips, with many other dishes in between. Lime Lounge has been recently reinvigorated. It has been freshly painted and is now decorated with lovely paintings of local art work and food, which create an artistic and homely feeling. The flowers also help create a lovely atmosphere and even though busy it was calm and pleasant to sit and chat whilst eating lunch. Since its rejuvenation Lime Lounge now tells a story of western food with a twist of the Solomons. You still feel like you are in the Solomons, but in cool and comfortable environment. Bamboo Café is an institution of Honiara; it is centrally located, has a lovely garden entrance and has traditional and beautiful décor inside. It is peaceful and quiet without the hustle and bustle that permeates the rest of Honiara. The staff were attentive and the fish ‘n’ chips were nicely proportioned, well presented and, had a good serve of both fish and chips, and a small accompanying salad.
